Prayers of Lord Brahma 8.5.26-50 These prayers seem to be in śānta rasa, seeing the Lord as transcendental and in charge of the material world 8.5.26-31 Characteristics of the SPOG as transcendental to the material world and how conditioned jivas cannot understand Him Some words in 8.5.26 relate to śruti mantras 8.5.32-43 vibhūti yoga of virāṭa-puruṣa Last line of 8.5.32 prasīdatāṁ brahma mahā-vibhūtiḥ Last line of all others: prasīdatāṁ naḥ sa mahā-vibhūtiḥ 8.5.26-27 General description of the SPOG 8.5.28  He is the hub of the jiva's samsara cakra 8.5.29 Yogis worships Him as supersoul with omkara 8.5.30 Only He can subdue maya 8.5.31 Devas cannot understand Him what to speak of humans!

Prayers of Lord Brahma 8.5.26-50 8.5.44-50 Repeats the Lord as transcendental but talks about His incarnations and glorifies Him how He favors those in the mode of goodness 8.5.50 Hints sakāma Bhakti, desiring to get a favor from Him. 8.5.26-27 General description of the SPOG 8.5.28  He is the hub of the jiva's samsara cakra 8.5.29 Yogis worships Him as supersoul with omkara 8.5.30 Only He can subdue maya 8.5.31 Devas cannot understand Him what to speak of humans!

8.5.26 How does the purport relate to various words in the translation? Why is Īśopaniṣad verse cited? If you are second initiated did you notice the word from Gayatri mantra? Avikriyam, Anantam, guhāśayam. ISO verse connecting with Mano’grayānam

8.5.27 Vipaścit = abhijña T/F? Why does the word-for-word translation of ‘tri-yuga’ contain ‘six opulences’ in it? Yuga can also mean pair. Tri-yuga = three pairs = six. One who has three pairs of(six) opulences. True.

8.5.28 When the living entity wanders in the cycle of birth and death who directs his wandering? supersoul

8.5.29 Yogis worship him through sense control and uttering of Omkāra.

8.5.30 Which verse of BG is SP paraphrasing? Daivi hyesa gunamayi … BG 7.14

8.5.31 What is the difference between the atheists and devotees in regards to the statement that we cannot understand Him?

8.5.32-43 Universal Form What is the difference between the form described in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11 and this one? One common aspect from BG is that His eyes are sun and the moon otherwise Arjuna is just describing everything he is seeing in Him but he is not describing Him as the source of generation of different beings. For instance, in SB, the mouth is a source of Vedas and brahmanas and also mouth is agni to accept sacrificial offerings but BG has the mouth devouring all people. The focus of Virat in BG is that of all powerful time which will devour everything eventually.

8.5.32 - 43 8.5.32 - What are the four categories of living entities based on how they are born? jarāyu-ja (those born from embryos), aṇḍa-ja (those born from eggs), sveda-ja (those born from perspiration), and udbhij-ja (those born from seeds).

8.5.33 “It is from water that all living entities emerge, and because of water they live and grow. If there were no water, all life would cease. Water is the source of life for everyone.” Water is His S…n OR S…t

8.5.32 - 43 8.5.34 – Moon is His M..d Why can’t moon be a desert? 8.5.35 – Fire is His M…h 8.5.36 – Sun is the E.. of the Lord. What is the Sanskrit name for Sun God used in Brahma Samhita and in the gayatri mantra? Savitā (savitṛ is the root)

8.5.32 - 43 8.5.38 – The mind comes from His n…l 8.5.9 – Lord Śiva from His a…. and Brahmā from His sober in……… 8.5.40 - Religion from His bosom, and irreligion from His b… 8.5.41 – śūdras are outside of Vedic knowledge T/F? 8.5.42 – Yamarājā from His e.. b…. and eternal time is His e.. la…s 8.5.43 - We have to r….t this material world because it is rejected by those who are learned in Vedic wisdom (prabudhāpabādham). Savitā (savitṛ is the root)

8.5.44-50 8.5.44 – In performing His pastimes in this material world, the SPOG is just like the unattached ..r 8.5.45 - Lord Brahmā wants to see the smiling lotus face of the Lord. T/F?

8.5.44-50 8.5.47 - Devotees who have dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord can achieve substantial results without working very hard. Give example of this from practical life. 8.5.48 – Little devotion saves from greatest danger. What example does Srila Prabhupada use to explain this concept? Ajamila

8.5.44-50 8.5.49 – In the analogy of tree the root is the SPOG. What do the trunk, branches and twigs represent? 8.5.50 – Sakāma bhakti hinted. VCT says “They also believe that the Lord should not stop their material enjoyment, since they are not pure devotees.”

SB 8.6: The Demigods and Demons Declare a Truce śrī-śuka uvāca evaṁ stutaḥ sura-gaṇair  bhagavān harir īśvaraḥ teṣām āvirabhūd rājan  sahasrārkodaya-dyutiḥ

śrī-śukaḥ uvāca — Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said; evam — in this way; stutaḥ — being worshiped by prayers; sura-gaṇaiḥ — by the demigods; bhagavān — the Supreme Personality of Godhead; hariḥ — the vanquisher of all inauspici-ousness; īśvaraḥ — the supreme controller; teṣām — in front of Lord Brahmā and all the demigods; āvirabhūt — appeared there; rājan — O King (Parīkṣit); sahasra — of thousands; arka — of suns; udaya — like the rising; dyutiḥ — His effulgence.

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King Parīkṣit, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, being thus worshiped with prayers by the demigods and Lord Brahmā, appeared before them. His bodily effulgence resembled the simultaneous rising of thousands of suns.

SB 8.6: The Demigods and Demons Declare a Truce Verse Groupings 1-7 – Lord Appears 8-15 – L. B. Prays 16-26 – L.. V. Replies 27-32 – Negotiate Truce with Bali Maharaja 33-39 – Begin Churning O. of Milk Details Cited: Bhagavad-gītā (4.6) ajo ’pi sann avyayātmā…, BG 4.7…. Bhagavad-gītā (4.34) tad viddhi praṇipātena . . ., SB ??? svayambhūr nāradaḥ śambhuḥ …, Bhagavad-gītā (9.10): mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ Compare and contrast BG 9.4 with 9.10

SB 8.6: The Demigods and Demons Declare a Truce Details (cont’d) 8.6.12 has the Mother of all Purports. It is enormous. What does it say? How is this practical in your own life? Does it glorify horses, ducks, cows or donkeys? In the first cantos there is a purport about Sukadeva Goswami and just staying for a moment at the doors of householders. Where is that? What does it say in comparison to this purport? About seven memory verses to review in this purport.

SB 8.6: The Demigods and Demons Declare a Truce Details (cont’d) 13 – What does svāmin kṛtārtho ’smi varaṁ na yāce mean? Do you desire to se Krsna face to face? Why? 15 - manaḥ ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati … Whole verse? Who can chant Gayatri? Milk and now m_____. 19 – Asuras were favored by the Brahmanas? T/F 20 –What is the logic of the snake and the mouse in the house? L.V. is duplictious? See 8.6.31. 23 – What is the chemical formula for nectar? 25 – Does LV recommend utsahan or dhairyat? 28 – What does gṛhe śatrum api prāptaṁ viśvastam akutobhayam mean? Source? We hear this often. Give another example of this policy.

SB 8.6: The Demigods and Demons Declare a Truce 29 Bali Maharaja is the son and grandson of? SB 8.6.33-39: Transportation of Manḍara Mountain In SB 5.16: A Description of Jambūdvīpa: SB 5.16.11 — On the four sides of the great mountain known as Sumeru are four mountains — Mandara, Merumandara, Supārśva and Kumuda — which are like its belts. The length and height of these mountains are calculated to be 10,000 yojanas [80,000 miles]. 8.7.9 says (about the back of the tortoise) When the demigods and demons saw that Mandara Mountain had been lifted, they were enlivened and encouraged to begin churning again. The mountain rested on the back of the great tortoise, which extended for eight hundred thousand miles like a large island

“There are two classes of living entities — the demons and the demigods” Where did you come across this in the Bhagavad Gita? What do the demons(materialistic scientists) and the demigods believe in regards to how this universe came about? Can you demonstrate the view of the demons from BG? What is the dictionary definition and etymology of chance and accident (8.6.39)? 8.6.38 Translation: The Lord very easily lifted the mountain with one hand and placed it on the back of Garuḍa. Then, He too got on the back of Garuḍa and went to the Ocean of Milk, surrounded by the demigods and demons. HPS: Add question on dictionary definition of chance and accident

8.6.39 Translation: Thereafter, Garuḍa, the chief of birds, unloaded Mandara Mountain from his shoulder and brought it near the water. Then he was asked by the Lord to leave that place, and he left. What does the word Yogeśvara mean? Contrast with Yogīśvara (SB 4.6.38) Why was Garuḍa asked to leave? HPS: Add question on why Garuda was asked to leave.

SB 8.7: Lord Śiva Saves the Universe by Drinking Poison Verse Grupings 1-20 – Churning the Ocean and the First Product. 21-35 –Prayers to Lord Siva. 36-45 – LS Drinks the Poison. Details How does this churning compare with the churning of Vena’s thighs? First products? 8.7.44 Is the best verse in this chapter? Who offers the prayers? Does that influence their perception of LS? What does Asutosa mean? Demigods and demons are both sons who? We should produce one book: Lord Siva in the SB. Name one or many previous instructions by or prayers to LS.

Thank You Hare Krsna
