Hawaiian Electric Company quickly expands conservation offerings with Verizon Grid Wide. Business challenges The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (HPUC) approved programs allowing customers to install rooftop solar energy and battery storage systems HPUC stipulated that solutions must be equipped with communication and control features Hawaiian Electric Company needed to stand up these customer opt-in programs quickly while meeting program requirements

Deployed Verizon Grid Wide: Intelligent Energy platform How we helped Deployed Verizon Grid Wide: Intelligent Energy platform Provided reliable connectivity with 4G LTE and Private IP Developed customized functionality to provide near real-time energy readings to address HPUC mandates Created a foundation that will support future growth, such as adding monitoring capabilities Outcomes Helped Hawaii maintain its leadership goals with renewable energy Addressed challenges of a short implementation timeframe using the prebuilt Verizon network and the Grid Wide platform-as-a-service solution Allowed customers to opt in to a program and offset their energy bills by generating their own power Provided greater location-specific visibility to the grid, even beyond the solar inverter These new programs will help Hawaii reach its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.
