Bullying Dan Olweun’s Definition of Bullying: “A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself." Bullying is an aggressive behavior that involves unwanted and negative actions. Bullying involves a pattern of behavior that is repeated over time. Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength.

Dan Olweus Dan Olweus was the first to do systematic research on bullying in the 1970’s. He is well known for his bullying prevention program, “Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.” In 1983 three young boys died in Northern Sweden, having committed suicide because of constant bullying. It caused a national campaign against bullying, resulting in Olweus’s program being published. Statistics show that 15 percent of students report they feel severely stressed by peer abuse. His studies were published in the United States in 1978 with the title “Aggression in the Schools: Bullies and Whipping Boys. “

The Bullying Circle

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program works on 4 levels. 1. School Centered Steps.

2. Individual Centered Steps.
