Assemble objects to form new creations Art Philosophy Assemble objects to form new creations Nevelson is known for her abstract expressionist “crates” grouped together to form a new creation. She used discarded objects to assemble her art creations. She liked using things that people threw away because it gave these objects a new purpose different from what they were originally used for.

Artistic Characteristics Abstract Monochromatic in color Shallow-relief Used/discarded materials Nevelson’s artistic style had the following characteristics. Sculptures were abstract, monochromatic in color, shallow-relief, and material use of discarded objects.

Royal Tide V Royal Tide V is one of Nevelson’s sculptures constructed of twenty-one individual units. It is created out of found objects such as furniture parts and lumberyard scraps. Nevelson assembled each unit together with the others and painted the entire piece a monochromatic gold in order to form a cohesive composition.
