Marvin Runyan 6-13-1957 11-5-2018 Dawn Fagan 4-22-1978 Marvin "Marv" Runyan of Corunna passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County. A Memorial service will be held at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Owosso Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Peg Faulmann officiating. Visitation with family and friends will start at 11:00 until the time of the service at the church. Marvin was born June 13, 1957 in Owosso to William and Virginia (Davis) Runyan. Marvin graduated from Corunna High School class of 1975 and attended Central Michigan University and Lansing Community College. He retired from Corunna Public Schools where he served as the SEIU Union Steward. He was a member of St Johns United Church of Christ. After only knowing each other for 3 months he married the love of his life Dawn Fagan on April 22, 1978. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in April. Together they worked hard and lovingly raised their two sons. They enjoyed life and made many happy memories that they will all cherish. Marvin enjoyed fishing, giving random acts of kindness, listening to good music, spending time with his family and friends and a good political debate. He also loved attending a good garage or estate sale. Marvin is survived by his wife Dawn, their sons Jacob (Jennifer) Runyan of Tecumseh, MI and Matthew Runyan of Menlo Park, CA. Also the light of life, his beautiful granddaughter Charlie Erin Runyan. Also his sister Nancy (Runyan) Baier, brothers William (Nancy) Runyan and Daniel Runyan as well as many other loving family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. L. Jeanne Boursmith 5-3-1926 Deceased 5-6-2018 Jack E. Boursmith Age 92 of Corunna passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, May 10, 2018 at St. Paul Episcopal Church with Rev. Russell Merrill officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Tree Cemetery in Corunna. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Homes-Owosso Chapel on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Jeanne was born May 3, 1926, the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Serr) Schooley. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church and the Corunna VFW Auxiliary 4005. Jeanne married Jack E. Boursmith in Corunna on September 18, 1948; he predeceased her in 2016. She worked with her husband as a secretary at Crest Printing for over 50 years. Jeanne is survived by her daughter Karen (Mike) Jury; grandson Steven (Samantha) McPherson; great-grandson Brenden McPherson; step-grandchildren Michael (Amanda) Jury, Kim (Mitch) Lawens and Nick (Lindsey) Jury; brother Gary (Shirley) Schooley; sister Billie Sleeper; sister-in-laws Dorothy Darnell, Barb Schooley and Peggy Schooley; many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband; infant son Ricky; parents; brothers Earl "Pink" Schooley, Robert "Red" Schooley and Ford Schooley; sister Betty Zwolensky and Jackie Thayer. William Kenneth Stewart William Kenneth (Ken) Stewart left this world to be with Dorothy, his beloved wife of 70 years, on Thursday, January 11, 2018. He was ill for only six weeks and was provided excellent care during that time at the VA and UofM Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Mich. A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12-noon, at the M-21 Church of Christ, 2511 E. M-21, Corunna. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Mr. Stewart's family is being served by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Ken was born April 28, 1925 in Cookeville, Tenn. to William Herschel Stewart and Edna (Lewis) Stewart. He grew up in a family of eight children, living in many homes in Tennessee and Florida, surviving the Great Depression and WWII without any casualties to their family. They moved to Owosso, Mich. in the 1940s, settling in Corunna after Ken joined the Navy in 1943. At age 16, Ken dropped out of school, moved to his own room, financed a bicycle at Western Auto, and began to work for a living, becoming manager of Meyers Ice Cream in Owosso by the time he was 17. As the owner of Ken's Shoes in Corunna for 35 years from 1952 to 1987, Ken was an integral part of Corunna’s prosperity, serving as a leader in the Chamber of Commerce and being involved in community projects. People greeted him wherever he went, whether customers of the shoe store with its “13th Pair Free” or visitors to his booth at the Shiawassee County Fair. Ken was a WWII veteran of the South Pacific, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was a diesel mechanic near Tulagi until the war ended, then a landing craft pilot for a time in Shanghai. He was honorably discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer, Machinist Mate 3. In 2011, Ken was an honored addition to Corunna’s WW-II Memorial in McCurdy Park. In 2016, Ken was escorted by his son Ken for Michigan’s Talons Out Honor Flight, visiting war memorials in Washington DC and being greeted by a crowd of well-wishers upon their return home. He was always amazed that so many cared when he felt he simply did his part. Shortly after the end of WWII, Ken married Dorothy Francis of Corunna on June 8, 1946. They were soul mates. Dorothy went home to heaven August 29th, 2017. They raised their six children in Corunna. They enjoyed driving, camping with the family, and more driving. A week’s vacation for the pair was a drive to the Florida Keys and back. In recent years, Ken drove the aged and infirmed to their appointments and was also a volunteer at Owosso Memorial Healthcare as a parking lot shuttle driver. It was important to him to keep busy after Dorothy went into care for dementia. This past summer, Ken put over 2,500 miles on his motorcycle, enjoying life to fullest until he became ill early in December. He was a frequent, much-welcomed visitor to friends and family all over lower Michigan and as far away as New Hampshire. Ken was best known for his passion for Christ. Ken and Dorothy became Christians in 1957. They spent the rest of their lives trying to bring Christ and be Christ to the lost via the M-21 Church of Christ. Hundreds of lives are forever changed by their interaction with Ken and his passion for their souls. Surviving are children; Bob and Vivian Stewart of Wilton, NH; Larry and Lynne Stewart of Rochester Hills, Mich.; Janie Keating of Owosso, Mich.; Julie and Randy Arnett of Owosso, Mich.; Susie and Peter Longbottom of Bradford, England; Ken and Lorie Stewart of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Sister Fern (Jim) VanLuven of Chesaning, Mich.; Sister-in-law Donna Kviz of New Lothrop, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and church family. Duane L. Ash 1-25-1936 Deceased 9-30-2017 Patsy Jane Vaughan 8-30-1958 Age 81 of Owosso passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held 11am Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Rev. John Walworth officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Tree Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm. Duane was born January 25, 1936 in Osseo, Michigan, the son of Loren and Laura (Flickinger) Ash. He attended Hillsdale High School, earned a Bachelor Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University and both a Master of Arts and Education Specialist Degree from Michigan State University. Duane proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army and Army Reserves. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and he especially loved to golf. Duane looked forward to trips to the casino, playing cards and his daily visits with friends at the local coffee shops. Most of all Duane loved spending time with his family; he especially enjoyed holidays. He married Patsy Jane Vaughan in Hillsdale on August 30, 1958. Beginning in 1960, Duane had a long, successful and impactful career in the Corunna Public Schools. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he was a math teacher, a middle and high school principal and the superintendent. In addition, he served as the Treasurer of the Corunna Public Schools Education Foundation and was the Sergeant of Arms for the Corunna Rotary. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Patsy; children Mike (Lisa) Ash and Catherine Ash; sister Beverly (Bob) Fairbanks; nephews Brooks (Raena) Rice and Bronce Rice; and many other loving family and friends. Duane was predeceased by his parents. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Oliver Woods and Grace Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care. James C. Appleby 12-3-1971 Deceased 1-9-2017 James C. Appleby Age 45 of Corunna passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at his home. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Deb Grazier officiating. The family will receive friends and family at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. James was born December 3, 1971 in Owosso, the son of James Robert (Bob) and Bonnie (VanNatta) Appleby. He graduated from Corunna High School, class of 1991. James enjoyed reading sci-fi books, comic books, puzzles, movies, spending time with his cat Pixie, Trivia contests and old TV. He looked forward to trips to the casino and spending time with his family and friends. James is survived by his mother Bonnie; brother Lance Appleby (fiancé Kristin Falicki); aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving family and friends. He was predeceased by his father and grandparents.
