Using a Student’s Encompassing as a Tool for Academic Success The Jedi Code Using a Student’s Encompassing as a Tool for Academic Success

Benefits of Using Encompassing Provides relatable information for how to deal with every day life Establishes an order to a school day Provides rules of engagement with other students

Terminology Key Padawan: A Jedi in training. Jedi Master: A Jedi who teaches or has mastered the force or lightsaber in such a way as to be recognized for his/her skill. Jedi Council: Serves as the governing body of the Jedi Order. Jedi Code: The set of standards all Jedi strive to meet and live by.

Terminology Key Journey: Challenges given to a candidate weekly to help him/her better follow the Jedi Code. Meditation: the candidate practicing an “exercise in stealth” by attempting not to be noticed in the halls of the Jedi Academy Jedi Academy: A place where people are trained in the ways of the Jedi.

Teachers and Support Staff Role of the Staff Jedi Masters Teachers and Support Staff Fellow Padawans Peers Jedi Council Members Administration

Responsibility "Deliver more than you promise. The best way to be always certain of this is to deliver much, even when you promise nothing." ―Jedi Master Tho-Mes Drei

Responsibility Examples Show up to class on time Bring agenda Write daily assignments in agenda With prompting Without prompting Complete assignments on time Extensions given when appropriate Complete homework on time Extensions given when appropriate Uses bins/crates to access necessary materials With prompting Without prompting

Self-Discipline "Learn to recognize when speed is not important. Race when being first is important; move at your own pace at all other times. It is not necessary to always strike the first blow, to provide the first solution, or to reach a goal before anyone else does. In fact, it is sometimes vital to strike the last blow, to give the final answer, or to arrive after everyone else.“ -Jedi Master Wiwa

Self-Discipline Examples Actions do not distract other students Asked to stop Ends behavior independently Limit aerial battles to 5 minutes in class Use appropriate techniques to participate in conversations Initiate Maintain Terminate

Public Service Participate in groups Sit within close proximity Participate in class discussions Contribute to the discussion Say something positive within the class period

How a Journey Works The candidate will be given an objective each week which corresponds with a journey in the Jedi Code The overall goal of the objectives are for the candidate to meet with more success than failure.

How a Journey Works Objectives are only a week long. If the candidate is successful with an objective the candidate earns a reward. If the candidate fails to meet an objective the candidate will revisit that objective at a later time.

Breaks During a Journey The candidate may receive one 5 minute “meditation” break each class period, if needed. May get a drink of water No talking

Assessing the Objective through Data Collection Each week the candidate’s participating Jedi Masters will fill out a form assessing the candidate’s performance. Objectives will range from daily data recording to only recording data on specific days.
