BADMINTON RULES/SKILLS 2018 Physical Education BADMINTON RULES/SKILLS 2018

History The game developed in British India from the earlier game of “Battledore and Shuttlecock”.  European play came to be dominated by Denmark but the game has become very popular in Asia, with recent competition dominated by China.  Since 1992, badminton has been a Summer Olympic sport

Badminton Serves Forehand Backhand (Flicker) Stand with your body turned somewhat sideways-on to the net, with your left foot in front and pointing forwards. Your right foot should be farther back and (comfortably) turned out to the side. Your weight should be mostly on your back foot. Hold your badminton racket with a relaxed basic grip. For a forehand serve you must drop the shuttlecock into the path of the racket; this is different from a backhand serve, where you "hit from the hand". Racket head must be below your waist Stand in a comfortable and balanced position with your racket hand in front. Lead with your racket leg and place your non-racket leg behind with your feet pointing towards your opponent. Carry out a short back swing then bring the racket forward. Hold the shuttle on the tip of the nylon in front of your waist level. Push the shuttle with the racket face and try to make the shuttle skim the tape of the net. Racket head must be below your waist
