States of Matter Foldable

Instructions Fold your paper in half “hotdog” style. Fold again into thirds. Cut twice to make three flaps.

Foldable Details Front Inside Movement of the atoms Solids Liquids Gases Volume and Shape Front Inside

Solids Atoms have very little space between them. The atoms are barely moving and slowly moving. This is because they have less energy than liquids and gases. Volume stays the same when you change the container. Shape stays the same when you change the container.

Liquids Atoms have more space between them than a solid. The atoms are moving faster and are more spread out than a solid. This is because they have more energy than a solid but less than a gas. Volume stays the same when you change the container. Shape changes when you change the container.

Gases Atoms have lots of space between them. The atoms are moving very fast and are the most spread out. This is because they have more energy than solids and liquids. Volume changes when you change the container. Shape changes when you change the container.
