Background In 1986, the SWSA began collaboration with Zhongshan University in Guangzhou by placing MSW students in the Guangzhou Federation of Women and the Guangzhou Communist Youth Since 1998, the SWSA has already sent a total of 300 social work students in various placement settings in different countries and places, such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore, UK, USA, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Sichuan, Taiwan and Japan.

Objectives of Overseas/Mainland Placement Facilitate Students to: experience and appreciate “International Social Work” broaden exposure to different cultures and welfare systems gain new life experiences and take up challenges advance professional development engage in international exchange improve language proficiency widen career opportunities

Duration of Placement for 2014 Summer Block only BSW : June 2 to Aug 8, 2014, 400 hours (10 weeks) or MSW : *June 2 to Aug 8, 2014, 450 hours (for 10 or 11 weeks of placement duties) * Could start the placement earlier

Eligibility of Applicants BSWFT2 (as at Sep 2013) and MSWFT1 (as at Sep 2013)  Summer Block 2014 and submit application in late 2013 MSWPT2 or MSWPT3 (as at Sep 2013)  Apply duration changes of placement (apply for deferment of concurrent placement to summer block placement)  Summer Block 2014 or 2015 and submit application in late 2013

Preference Form Indicate your preference in the PMS Fill in Form A and invite your preferred teacher to make recommendation in Form B Prepare a personal resume (CV) Submit the Form A and CV to Miss Shirley Yip at General Office on or before December 31, 2013 We will collect Form B directly from teachers

Assessment Criteria Good language proficiency (English and/or Putonghua) Good learning attitudes and interpersonal skills Maturity and independence Good heath condition (both physically and psychologically) Academic performance (GPA at 3 or above will be selected for interview) Sufficient financial support to afford overseas expenses Recommendation from teachers The above listed items are not exhaustive

Subsidy Granting SWSA will offer subsidy to the expenses of airfare, local transportation, medical check up, visa application etc. (around 30-40% of total expenses) Other Support for students : - T Y Wong Foundation (on loan for needy students) - HSBC Scholarship (travel & lodging expenses in Mainland) - SWSA Alumni (1978 Graduates) International Placement Fund (additional subsidy for needy students)
