Truths

Jesus is God

“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,’ Who do people say the Son of Man [Jesus] is?’’ (Matthew 16:13).

“They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’” (Matthew 16:14-15).

“Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God’” (Matthew 16:16).

Scripture declares:

Scripture declares: His virgin birth

“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God’” (Luke 1:35).

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’)” (Matthew 1:23).

Jesus is Fully God

“For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body” (Colossians 2:9).

“‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’” (John 8:58).

Jesus is Fully Man

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,  he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-9).

“What do we do with such a person?  We applaud men for doing good things.  We enshrine God for doing great things.  But when a man does God things? One thing is certain, we can’t ignore him.  Why would we want to? If these moments are factual, if the claim of Christ, is actual, then he was, at once, man and God….Dismiss him?  We can’t. Resist him? Equally difficult. Don’t we need a God-man Savior? A just-God Jesus could make us, but not understand us. A just-man Jesus could love us, but never save us.  But a God-man Jesus? Near enough to touch. Strong enough to trust.” (Max Lucado)

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life

“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’  When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly” (1 Peter 2:21-23).

“But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins “But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin” (1 John 3:5).

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin” (Hebrews 4:15).

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life His miracles

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him” (Acts 10:38).

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life His miracles His substitutionary work on the cross

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness” (1 Peter 2:24).

“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions” (Ephesians 2:3-5).

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life His miracles His substitutionary work on the cross His bodily resurrection from the dead

“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostle” (1 Corinthians 15:3-7).

“Whatever could have convinced these Jews that Jesus was, in fact, God incarnate?  What on earth could have led these Jews to do what their entire culture prohibited them from doing—worshipping a man?  What must Jesus have been like, what character must he have had, what claims must he have made and what incredible deeds must he have done, to convince [them]…?  It wasn’t the “resuscitation” of a corpse which convinced them that Jesus was God incarnate, it was the Resurrection of a man who had already embodied the Kingdom of God—its love, teachings and power—during his life.” (Greg Boyd)

“If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Corinthians 15:13-14).

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life His miracles His substitutionary work on the cross His bodily resurrection from the dead His ascension

“After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight” (Acts 1:9).

“Who then is the one who condemns. No one “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us” (Romans 8:34).

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say. A man who said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic--on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg--or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice.

Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Scripture declares: His virgin birth His sinless life His miracles His substitutionary work on the cross His bodily resurrection from the dead His ascension He is coming again!

“After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven’” (Acts 1:9-11).

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6).
