Level 2 Presentations – Face Offs 2/25/18

Face Off Pregame Paint OR tape allowed for FO stick (4-3 b15) Thick or sticky material is prohibited (NCAA only) Ball must be placed in middle of both sticks “From top to stop” Place hands on top of both sticks (4-3 b7) Calling official signals violation

Faceoff & wing Official Responsibilities FACEOFF OFFICIAL Holds the ball Looks to the wing official for the “ready” signal Lines up fogos properly (facing correct goal) Indicates where the FO will happen and says “down” Adjust players and gives “set” command with his hand on top of the crosses Backs away and blows the whistle WING OFFICIAL Pumps fist and starts timer when partner reaches center “X” Positions himself about 5yds below wing line Alerts partner of any EMO situation Gives the ready signal when player count is correct Watches for wing middies leaving early

Proper FO Positioning Both hands around the shafts. All fingers touching the ground. Hands off the head of the stick. Sticks parallel to center line. Sticks up to, but not touching, the center line. Heads of sticks are vertical and evenly matched. Entire bodies to the left of the throats of their sticks, so that the neutral zone is clear.

Proper FO Positioning

Successes & Failures POSSESSION & PLAY Once there’s DEFINITE possession  on official will wind his arm backward and yell “Possession!” Off official – Echo the call Once possession is established the Trail takes the transition count. If a loose ball crosses the restraining line  on official will wind his arm back and yell “Play,” FO VIOLATIONS Pre-whistle – stand the players up without a whistle, signal/state the violation. Post-whistle – blow the whistle immediately, and signal/state the violation. Restart – whoever is the new Trail
