Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal Latch While pressing the latch on the top right side of the ice bucket, lift up the bucket and pull it out

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal The refrigerator must be placed into the forced mode and set to “Fd” which turns on the freezer defrost heater. This will also turn on the ice maker mold heater. If there is any ice build up in the area of the cooling tube and the mold, the tube can be damaged trying to pry it loose from the mold unless the ice is melted first. Once the ice bucket is removed there is a caution that must be observed before attempting to remove the direct cooling ice maker.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal The ice maker mold heater will come on in the forced mode only when the freezer compartment defrost is activated. The mold heater will not come on when the freezer is in a normal defrost cycle. Caution must be taken when using the forced defrost in a refrigerator where the compartments are already warm. Additionally the forced mode must be canceled as soon as the ice on the mold is melted enough to separate the ice maker drain from the mold to prevent damage from the heating elements in the refrigerator and freezer sections. To enter the forced mode, press and hold these 2 buttons on the display panel until the display blanks out. Then press any button until “Fd” appears on the display. This indicates the freezer section as well as the refrigerator section is in the defrost mode.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal While in the forced defrost mode for both refrigerator and freezer compartments, “Fd”, start disassembling the I/M. Remove the screw from the wire housing cover and remove the cover. With the power disconnected, unplug the I/M connector. Auger Motor Connector While in the forced defrost mode start disassembling the I/M. Remove the screw from the wire housing cover and remove the cover. After the forced mode has had time to melt any ice build up on the mold of the ice maker, unplug the main AC power cord and with the power disconnected, unplug the I/M connector in the ice room. Ice Maker Connector

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal Remove the silicone cap covering the lower I/M cover and remove the screw The lower cover of the ice maker, which acts as the defrosted water drain, can be released by pulling out the silicone cap that covers the only screw that holds the front up. The rear of the cover in pined in place and acts like a hinge so the cover cannot be removed completely.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal Using a flat blade screw driver, pry the latch on the left side of the lower I/M tray to release the tray. Once released CAREFULLY pull the tray down. It will not come out as the rear of the tray is attached to the I/M. Using a flat blade screw driver, pry the latch on the left side of the lower I/M tray to release the tray. Once released CAREFULLY pull the tray down. It will not come out as the rear of the tray is attached to the I/M. Remember, the plastic will be cold and can break if forced too far.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal Cooling Tube If the I/M was not allowed enough time to defrost ice build up, the lower tray and/or the cooling tube can be damaged. If there is still too much ice around the cooling tube and the ice maker mold, the ice must be melted before continuing or damage will occur.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal CAREFULLY insert a flat blade screwdriver between the cooling tube and the mold of the I/M and pull the tube down Care must be taken not to bend or distort in any way the cooling tube or it will not fit properly when reinstalling the ice maker.

Refrigerator Ice Maker Removal While pressing the latch on the I/M, pull out and down to remove the Ice Maker. ※ When removing the I/M, be sure that the cooling tube grommets (6ea) are not removed and the tube is not damaged. The heater is part of the mold but the cooling tube is moved out of the way to remove the I/M from the ice room. When replacing the ice maker the cooling tube MUST fit into the channel provided in the mold or the bottom cover will not close and the mold will not cool properly affecting ice production. New Auger Motor Assembly Ice room cooling fan duct I/M defrosted water drain BLDC Fan Ice bucket full I/R transmitter Ice room temperature sensor The new auger motor assembly contains the new ice level sensing infrared system, an ice room circulation fan and a drain for the new ice maker The usual components that are common with older assemblies are the auger motor, cubed/crushed ice solenoid and ice room temperature sensor. The extra drain this refrigerator has because of the new ice maker has a heating element wrapped around the drain tube to keep it from freezing.

Unplug the auger motor connector. Auger Motor Removal Auger Motor Connector Ice Maker Connector To remove the auger motor assembly, like previous models, must have the ice maker out of the way to make room. This new ice room is smaller than previous models. Unplug the auger motor connector. NOTE: The ice maker must be removed in order to remove the auger motor

Auger Motor Removal With the auger motor assembly unplugged, press on the latch on the bottom of the assembly to unlock it and slide the assembly out Caution must be taken not to apply too much force if the plastic is cold, the auger motor latch may snap off.

Auger Motor Fan Removal Ice room circulation fan Ice Room Fan Error Ice maker drain If the refrigerator displays a “40E” error this indicated that the ice room fan is either defective, ice build up is stopping the blades which should be unlikely or there is a wiring harness problem.

Auger Motor Fan Removal Only the fan and the drain tube with heater can be easily replaced on the auger motor assembly. All other components will require the assembly to be replaced. With the auger motor removed, take out the screws that holds the drain in place and move the drain and Styrofoam insulation away.

Auger Motor Fan Removal With the Styrofoam insulation removed both the ice maker drain with heater and the fan can now be removed for replacement. Both components are using connectors that unplug. With the Styrofoam insulation removed both the ice maker drain with heater and the fan can now be removed for replacement. Both components are using connectors that unplug.

Non Replaceable Auger Motor Components If any of these components in the auger motor assembly fail, the entire assembly should be replaced: Auger motor Solenoid Ice room temperature sensor I/R transmitter The fan and drain heater can be replaced with minimal disassembly. If any of these components in the auger motor assembly fail, the entire assembly should be replaced. The disassembly necessary to remove these components is very time consuming.

Detecting the I/R Transmitter No ice production could be a defective ice bucket level sensor. If either the transmitter or receiver goes bad ice production will stop since the MICOM will think the ice bucket is full. The I/R transmitter is located in the auger motor and receiver in the ice maker. The transmitter can be tested for function by looking at it through a camera. If it does not light, the auger motor assembly must be replaced. If it’s working, then the receiver is defective which requires replacing the ice maker assembly. The ice bucket level I/R transmitter, located in the auger motor assembly, will not throw an error if it fails. To detect if it is working, view the I/R LED through any camera or most any phone that has a camera and you will see it lit.

Ice Room Component Errors Ice Room Sensor Error Sensor housing cracked or broken, wiring problem or sensor is shorted or open. Refrigerator Ice Maker Function Error Error is displayed when a Heater opens or the ice maker does not function properly. Separation of Ice Pipe Heater housing, Connection problem or open heater Ice Room Fan Error Error occurs during operation if the feedback signal is not received from the fan motor. Defective fan, connection or main PCB. Only the fan and drain with heater, located in the auger motor housing, can be easily replaced. All other errors require the assembly be replaced.
