WILF: you to be able to explain the significance of an invention. Dragons Den: What was the most significant invention of the Industrial Revolution? WALT: research and consider the significance of a selection of inventions from the Industrial Revolution WILF: you to be able to explain the significance of an invention.

What was the most significant invention of the Industrial Revolution? All learners must: Be able to suggest the reasons why their chosen invention is significant. Most : Be able to EXPLAIN the reasons why their chosen invention is significant. and suggest that it is more important than others.. Some: Be able to ANALYSE why their invention is more significant than others, making comparisons between different inventions. Few: Be able to EVALUATE the impact of their chosen invention and justify their reasons.

Which is more significant? You have 2 minutes to discuss this with your partner - be ready to explain your reasons why!

Inventions of the Industrial Revolution “Blucher” – the first steam powered locomotive, invented by George Stephenson The “Great Western” steam boat – designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel Gas Lighting – invented by William Murdoch The steam engine – invented by James Watt & Matthew Boulton. Electric Discoveries – Michael Faraday The Converter – Invented by Henry Bessemer The Telephone – Invented by Alexander Graham Bell

Dragons Den Task You will be split into groups, and each group will present an invention of the Industrial Revolution in a Dragons' Den style "pitch". You are going to prepare a presentation in which you must convince the “dragons” (the rest of the class) that your invention is the best one (the most significant) of the industrial revolution. The presentation will be completed as a group Each person within the group will contribute to the presentation - ensure everyone has a role. Your aim is to highlight all the best points about your invention!

Pitch In order to produce the most convincing pitch you should try to include as much of the following as you can: A written speech. An interview with a worker or a factory owner. An explanation of the invention including its main features or selling points and reasons why this makes it significant. An illustrated poster, with a slogan and/ or logo to promote it. Analysis of the significance of your invention compared to other inventions – aim to justify the reasons why yours is better than others. Hint: Think about how it changed things for the better.

Remember, YOU are trying to convince our Dragons to say…
