Introduction This presentation outlines the challenges faced by our social housing residents Current economic and social status of our tenants, The relationship with the cycle of poverty Why we make inherent the use of our National Community Development Framework alongside our property and tenancy management operations.

The Cycle of Poverty Various information and research suggests that poverty is driven primarily by; prolonged unemployment low household income and personal debt low education particularly access to or participation in higher education addiction and trauma family breakdown

Presentation focus The Northern Suburbs of Launceston Mayfield, Mowbray, Ravenswood, Rocherlea and Waverley

Median Weekly Household Incomes Northern Suburbs of Launceston $738 [$623 in Rocherlea] Australian median household income of $1438 Tasmanian median household income $1100. The weekly median income has only risen by $85 dollars since 2011. [2016 ABS Census Data]

Unemployment The average unemployment rate across all five suburbs is 17.1% Tasmania 7% Nationally 6.9% [2016 ABS Census Data]
