Why do we manage “Independent Contractors” differently than other firms?

Looking back: 1990 Discovery through critical analysis of business model that independent contract trainers were doing the same work as full time employees. Decision to eliminate independent contracts and move to employee status to mitigate risk.

What’s different? As a part-time employee, part-time trainers are eligible to participate in our retirement plan We provide medical benefits when working abroad We provide work tools, such as email and voicemail, corporate credit card and calling card, and access to company systems to report time and expenses

What’s the same? Current adjunct consultants still operate their own businesses or LLCs while being on DDI payroll Use of adjunct consultants is still based on fit, capability and geographical presence Over 60% of client-facing training delivery provided by adjunct consultants Relationships with adjunct consultants are managed identically compared to when they were ICs
