Plant Cell
Cell Membrane a thin covering around the cell the cell membrane determines what enters and leaves the cell
Cytoplasm Looks like jelly; found throughout the cell This is where activities are carried out by the organelles in the cell
Vacuoles in cytoplasm; looks like air bubbles vacuoles store food, chemicals, and waste
Mitochondria Found in the cytoplasm Mitochondria converts food into energy; the “powerhouse” of the cell
Ribosomes Found in cytoplasm; tiny round structures attached to endoplasmic reticulum Where proteins are made
Nucleus Found in the cytoplasm in the center of the cell; surrounded by the nuclear membrane Directs all cell activities, “control center of the cell,” contains DNA and RNA
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Found inside chromosomes in the nucleus Contains instructions for growth reproduction and development of a cell
Chromosomes rod shaped; found in nucleus; made of coiled DNA Contain DNA which are the “instructions”
Cell Wall the thick and firm outer boundary of the plant cell the cell wall supports and protects the plant cell
Chloroplasts Oval-shaped and green, found in the cytoplasm of plant cells Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll
Chlorophyll Found in chloroplasts which are located in the cytoplasm Chlorophyll allows plants to make their own food and is responsible for their green color
