Foundations for Godly Character in 2018 Look back to 2017 and forward to 2018 No resolutions Ask God for One word or phrase? Offer foundations

Psalm 103 1 Praise the Lord, my soul;     all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, my soul,     and forget not all his benefits – 3 who forgives all your sins     and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit     and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things     so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Contemplate behold and focus on God’s glory – his character power presence – manifestation Worship and thanksgiving [lit doxology] Think about /meditate Read and listen to word Pray and talk Become like him

6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed 6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger for ever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15 The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.

17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children – 18 with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. 19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

20 Praise the Lord, you his angels,     you mighty ones who do his bidding,     who obey his word. 21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,     you his servants who do his will. 22 Praise the Lord, all his works     everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul.

Good Foundations

4 Foundations and 4 Practices Goodness of God Grace of God Love of God Call of God

Goodness of God “He is so much better than you or I think” “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:26-28 => Feed on Bible Embrace mystery BJ quote Cf how we understand God – mind set world view. Where we see world from cf Ethiopia herding cats Ps 103 He defines goodness, not us His ways and plans are always for our best Feed on the word of God – let him set our thinking right. Realised with cessationism – those who taught me and books – focus cf Womens rights – culture

Grace of God => Thankful Focus on what God is doing Grace (from the Greek New Testament word charis) is God's unmerited favor. It is kindness from God that we don't deserve. There is nothing we have done, nor can ever do to earn this favor. It is a gift from God. Grace is divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration (rebirth) or sanctification; ... Trip tp tip – battery went. Good news and bad Thanks – worship and speak of what he has done for me! [‘testimony’]

Love of God His love for and in us changes us “Be careful that you never allow your hearts to grow cold. Remain passionate and free from anxiety and the worries of this life. Then you will not be caught off guard by what happens.” Luke 21:34a, TPT => Come away Be like Him: holiness Context of end times and pain as world today – 2017! Who knows what 2018 holds? => Come away: = retreat, listen, contemplate, journal, pray – ‘open up to me’ jesus culture How we treat one another Holiness – sexual exploitation and mis treatment, stand for purity. Equality, value. Feminist ogle. Must be pure too – porn problems - 43% grace – seek help.

Call of God Our response “Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:21-22 => Obey Love the one in front Jesus call and commission – sent ones – apostolic - sent to do what he did! Mt 28 luke 9 and 190 Mark 16 John 20 Whatever you have been called to do – obey, go, love, share, encourage, comfort, prohesy, heal,
