Decrease CO2 emissions from fertilizer by 50% ZARI Results using PlantCatalyst® on Soybeans The Zambian Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI) recently ran field trials comparing a range of use scenarios for PlantCatalyst®. In these trials, they found that PlantCatalyst® has the potential to dramatically improve smallholder soybean production through reducing costs, increasing yields, increasing profit margins, and dramatically decreasing agricultural emissions: Reduce cost by $26 per Hectare (ZMW 250), a 9% decrease versus fields with full fertilizer rate applied 41% increase in profit per Hectare versus fields with full fertilizer rate applied Decrease CO2 emissions from fertilizer by 50%

In these trials, they found that PlantCatalyst® has the potential to dramatically improve smallholder maize production through reducing costs, increasing yields, increasing profit margins, and dramatically decreasing agricultural emissions: 18% Increase in Yields per Hectare versus fields with full fertilizer rate applied Decrease input costs by over $100 per Hectare (ZMW 1,000), equivalent to 6% of per capita GNI Decrease CO2 emissions from fertilizer by 50% (948kgs CO2/Ha)

Potential National Impact of Using PlantCatalyst® on Maize Currently, Zambia subsidizes large fertilizer purchases for maize production through the Farmer Income Support Programme (FISP). In 2015/16, this program was on track to subsidize the purchase of nearly 184,000MT of synthetic fertilizer, covering over 459,000Ha. If PlantCatalyst® were integrated into this support scheme, it could displace half of this fertilizer purchase, while resulting in: 18% Increase in yields, leading to 132,216MT more maize produced on the same land, equivalent to 5% of total Zambian consumption. Decrease FISP fertilizer purchase costs by 47M USD, 0.534% of the total government budget. Decrease CO2 emissions from fertilizer by over 435,000MT, a 15% total reduction in Zambia’s emissions.
