Remember to keep track of your pages! 10 minutes of book love Remember to keep track of your pages!

Use five different words you would use to describe yourself (what roles do you play?) On a fresh page of your writer’s notebook, record your name and then list five different words you use to define who you are Example: who are you in your family? On your team? In the cast? In your neighborhood? Essentially, who are you in terms of the communities you are part of?

Why do you think that comedic traditions are present in many cultures?

Why do you think that, Specifically, American culture embraces tragedy? What about it aligns with our country’s values? How does this relate to the idea of “rugged individualism”?

What advantages does American culture have because of how we embrace tragedy?

Considering the comparison, what advantages do some cultures sacrifice by valuing Tragedy over comedy?

Journal entry Consider how you define yourself Then, consider how the culture you are most familiar with (for some of you this is “Western” thinking, aka “Traditional American” thinking, but for others of you, you value other cultures more) views the role of the individual Why is the study of Romeo and Juliet (a tragic-comedy) relevant to American students more that pure comedy or pure tragedy would be?
