Presentation Techniques By Gamal Prather

Overview Audience Time Slide Density Use of Pictures Organization Charisma Practice Nerves Body Language Visual Aids Citing Sources

Audience Consider to whom you will be presenting Presentation Tone Serious Comedic Proper attire for your audience

Time What is your time limit? Allow ~1 minute per slide Keep it moving! Allow time for questions

Slide Density Don’t try to fit everything on one slide Use slides like note cards Type in phrases Keep it simple

Pictures Use pictures that illustrate your point Line them up! They don’t necessarily have to be a picture of what you’re talking about Line them up!

Organization Use an ‘Overview’ slide to help get yourself organized Use the bullets on that slide as headings of other slides Think of the presentation like you’re telling a story

Charisma Let your personality shine through You want your presentation to stand out from the others

Practice Beforehand Make note cards for yourself You can stop when your presentation is perfect … which is never, so keep practicing!

Nerves Pretend the audience is in their underwear Look for your “grandma’s”, which are friendly faces in the crowd

Body Language Avoid hiding behind the podium Speak confidently The audience will focus on you if you move from behind the podium Voice intonation Avoid monotone speech

Visual Aids Explain them thoroughly Keep them simple You can use Don’t assume the audience understands Keep them simple You can use Pictures Graphs Flowcharts Sketches Solid models
