On to Perfection Hebrews 6

The “perfect” (full age) & the meat of God’s Word

God’s Word is food for the Spirit But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

God’s Word is food for the Spirit Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16

God’s Word is food for the Spirit as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 1 Peter 2:2

God’s Word is food for the Spirit For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. Hebrews 5:12

The full-grown person wants gospel messages to please God and not men For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. Galatians 1:10

Those who become hurt, angry or offended at God’s truth are immature. Giving (2 Cor 9:6-7) “Works of the flesh” (Gal 5:19-21) Concerning work in the Kingdom (1 Cor 15:58).

The “perfect” (full age), discern between good & evil

Hebrews 5:12-14 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

God’s people are to prove all things Test all things; hold fast what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21

God’s people are to prove all things 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The mature have their senses exercised to discern good & evil. “Full grown” saints will not engage in any practice until they have looked at it through God’s Word.

The “perfect” (full age), realize their imperfections.

Philippians 3:13-15 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

He knows that he has no real reason to be self-righteous 9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

He knows that he has no real reason to be self-righteous 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 18:9-14

He will not measure his life by others, but by the standard of God’s Word. For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12

He will not measure his life by others, but by the standard of God’s Word. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. John 12:48

He knows that he needs to continually grow & develop but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Those who say they no longer need to grow spiritually show their immaturity Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Philippians 3:15

Lessons for us today.

Lessons for us today The challenge of Hebrews 6:1 is also an admonition. Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, Hebrews 6:1

Lessons for us today The challenge of Hebrews 6:1 is also an admonition. The “perfection” God requires is a level of maturity. One should, in the light of these, “examine himself,” then “go on to perfection.” Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. 2 Corinthians 13:5

Conclusion 1. The motto “I’m just fine” is a sign of a lack of maturity and dedication to God. 2. There is not a good reason to be an immature Christian.
