Higher Physical Education Course Specification

CfE HIGHER PHYSICAL EDUCATION Welcome to Higher Physical Education Your reason for choosing this subject of study should be due to the fact that you are: A HIGH LEVEL PERFORMER Or HAVE A VERY KEEN INTEREST IN SPORT AND UNDERSTAND THAT THIS COURSE WILL COVER A LOT OF THEORY INFORMATION WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEEPEN YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF.

The expectations on you when choosing Higher are: You must bring your PE kit to all practical lessons, even if you are injured and unable to participate All deadlines for Homework and internal assessments must be met. If you are choosing to be assessed practically outwith the curriculum practically you must let me know ASAP The relationship between practical to theory will not always be 50/50, especially as we move towards prelims and the final exam!

CfE HIGHER PHYSICAL EDUCATION In order to sit the final exam you must: Achieve a higher practical performance grade in 2 activities Pass the unit Assessment (FIP) for the course, which focuses on Factors Impacting performance. This will take the form of an investigative approach where you will produce a portfolio of evidence, which demonstrates you have passed this unit of the course. This will be an ongoing process throughout the year and you WILL be required to work independently to contribute to the collection of evidence which supports you have passed this unit.

The whole course will be assessed at the end of the year in 2 ways: PERFORMANCE Worth 60% of your overall grade This will be a ONE OFF performance which consists of 3 parts, which you will be assessed on. PLANNING AND PREPARATION 10% PERFORMANCE 40% EVALUATION 10% Planning and preparation and Evaluation will both involve written tasks. A WRITTEN EXAM which lasts 1 and a half hours.

CfE HIGHER PHYSICAL EDUCATION This course will cover 3 ACTIVITIES BADMINTON GYMNASTICS BASKETBALL The theory of the course will be taught through the above activities and you will have to achieve a Higher Practical Performance Grade in 2 of these to allow you to be put forward for the exam (also pass the internal FIP unit Assessment).

You must tell me if you wish to do this before the Summer holidays. You will CHOOSE which activity you be assessed on for your FINAL practical assessment (One off performance). This DOES NOT have to be one of the activities above. If you choose an activity out with the curriculum you must agree it with myself first and you are responsible for making a video of that performance unless I can arrange to watch you. You must tell me if you wish to do this before the Summer holidays. You can achieve 60% of your final grade for this performance.

Exam The exam covers two areas. The first is a selection of questions which refer to the course work that we cover throughout the year. The second part takes the form of a Scenario question and you need to analyse the information you are given and decide what the question that is asking you.

EXAMPLE The extract is a summary of a footballer’s performance in a recent game. Pass completion rate was only 40% Booked in 40 minutes, sent off in 71 minutes Was at fault for the oppositions first goal, not tracking the opponent Appear agitated and distracted by the crowd In your answer you must refer to the following factors impacting on performance; Mental and one other – from physical, social and emotional. Analyse some of the reasons for the footballer putting in this kind of performance. (8) Explain possible approaches to development that may be used to improve the footballers performance within the two factors mentioned in part (a). (8)
