‘S Factor’ Athletics Club Sports Newsletter – Autumn Term 2017 Welcome to our first Sports Newsletter. We hope to bring you a round up each term of the wonderful activities and sports the children have been taking part in. Active kids are healthy kids! There have been some shocking statistics recently regarding the health of children due to their diet and inactivity. We are really keen that our children should be fit and healthy and develop good habits while they are young. We will be encouraging them to be as active as possible, starting in our PE lessons where we will be focusing on improving fitness levels as well as learning new skills. Please make sure the children always have their PE kits in school and that their shoes fit well so they are not too tight and uncomfortable and they are not so loose that they fall off when they run. Football Festival On 5th October, nine of our Year 5 and Year 6 boys took part in a Football Festival, held at the Whitefoot Lane playing fields of Bonus Pastor. Our team played brilliantly against five other local Catholic schools finishing in second place, one point behind the winners, St Winifreds. Well done Ollie, Christopher and Caleb in Year 5 and Ekene, Lawrence, Emmanuel, Daniel J, Daniel T, and Jacob in Year 6. Thank you also to Mrs Mole and Mrs Loughnane who accompanied the team as well as the parents and carers who went to support the team. ‘S Factor’ Athletics Club If you enjoy athletics why not pop along to visit the ‘S Factor’ Athletics club at Ladywell Arena SE6 4QX? Children can take part in different athletics events and fun activities and it is open to anyone of any ability to participate. The club runs on: Saturday 10am-12pm or Wednesdays 6pm-7.30pm For more information: http://sfactoracademy.co.uk/lewisham/ Athletics Festival On 9th November we took part in the annual Sports Hall Athletics event at Bonus Pastor. Holy Cross was represented by Lily, Christine, Deborah, Mirella, George, Hugo, Filip, Paulius, Elizabeth, Mildred, Solange, Sophie, Jacob, James and Kamil who competed in throwing, jumping and running events. The atmosphere was very exciting and we showed great team spirit with everyone cheering and shouting for each other. Well done to all those who took part and thank you to the parents who came along and supported our young athletes too. Physical activity is known to improve attainment. Activity helps improve focus, concentration and behaviour so walking to school is a great way to start the day!

Do you belong to a club or take part in a sport outside of school? Football Team On 11th November our football team played at Blackheath on a very cold and wet morning. Despite the conditions, the team played brilliantly winning their first game against Downderry 2-0 and their second game 3-0 against Kender Primary in a great start to the season! Well done Emmanuel, Ekene, Daniel J, Jacob, Lawrence, Daniel T in year 6 and Christopher, Farley, Deborah and Paulius in Year 5. We also played at Blackheath last weekend with two well-fought games, one drawing 0-0 with Rushey Green School and the other losing 2-0 to Gordonbrock School. Thank you Mrs Briggs and the team: Ekene, Jacob, Daniel J, Lawrence, Emmanuel, Daniel T, Riquelme, Farley, Deborah and Paulius. Good luck for your next match on 9th December. We were really pleased to hear all about it and to see her trophy. Well done Ailish, a fabulous achievement! New Equipment Thank you for all the Sainsburys Active Kids vouchers you collected last year. We have taken delivery of lots of lovely equipment including hockey sticks, balls and ankle skippers which the children are now able to use at playtime and in PE lessons. Mrs Slattery also applied to the Premier League Primary Stars who have donated equipment including footballs, pop up goals, cones and hula hoops for the children to enjoy. Do you belong to a club or take part in a sport outside of school? If so, we’d love to hear about all your achievements – please let us know.
