Seeing the same things differently How many of your classmates saw the same thing as you did in picture #1? How many of your classmates saw the same thing as you did in picture #2? Why do you think most of you saw different things in the pictures? HOTS: Distinguishing Different perspectives

Everyone seeing the same thing and yet each one seeing it differently is called PERSPECTIVES. We have just learned about distinguishing different perspectives. Let’s use that skill to help us analyze the poem.

What are the two perspectives in the poem? In your opinion, who is "I" and who are "they" in the poem? What is the final goal for the "I" and what is the final goal for the "they”? What do the “I” and the “they” have in common? How does the "I" want this goal to be achieved? How do the "they" want this goal to be achieved? Do you, as the reader, have a more similar perspective to the “I” or the “they”? Explain your answer.

What is the poet’s message What is the poet’s message? What do you think was Billy Collins’ reason for writing the poem? How can you use the skill Distinguishing different perspectives in other areas of your life?
