MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE TRAINING PATHWAYS Two pathways exist for someone interested in Musculoskeletal Medicine. General Practitioner or Specialist/Fellow. Backgrounds of MSM doctors vary, & options of what you can do with a Musculoskeletal Medicine qualification vary enormously. GENERAL PRACTICE PATHWAY: - FRNZCGP & hold Annual Practicing Certificate - Hold full registration with the MCNZ SPECIALIST PATHWAY: - Candidates must hold a MBBS OR MBChB qualification - An Annual Practicing Certificate & full registration with the MCNZ & clinical experience. - Varied backgrounds e.g.GP to Urgent Care doctor, Military Medicine, Sports & Exercise Medicine, Rural Health or Orthopaedics. GP PART-TIME IN MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE: - PG Cert or PG Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine - University of Otago – distance learning - 2 x practical “hands on” On-Campus courses recommended. COMPLETE THE POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE - PART A: - University of Otago, NZ - 8 papers in minimum of 4 years - Distance Learning - Internet based theoretical learning - 2 x practical 'hands on' On-Campus - Prior learning may be recognised SPECIALIST FELLOWSHIP TRAINING IN MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE - PART B: - Clinical Training Programme - With Clinical Supervisor & Mentor Support - Attends retreats to further learning - Final Exam - Multi Choice & Clinical Oral Exam Certificate of Attainment awarded by NZAMM on recommendation from AFMM GP PART-TIME IN MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE: - Join NZAMM for PG Education Mentoring - CME & Collegial support - Retreats & conferences OPTION SPECIALIST IN MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE: ACC & Health Insurance specialist accreditation. Continue training with NZAMM & AFMM. - Retreats & Optional Interventional & Procedure Training - No shift work, better pay, working in chosen field - Mentor & supervise new candidates - Opportunities for Academic & Research posts.
