Double-stranded RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR) is a protein involved in the crosstalk between inflammation, stress response, and metabolic disorders. PKR is activated by lipids and cytokines and interferes with insulin signaling by a direct inhibitory phosphorylation of IRS-1 or by an indirect mechanism involving activation of c-Jun kinase.
