Class 3 – Individual Testimony What did the individuals who spoke or wrote under Inspiration have to say about it? Moses; David; Balaam; Jeremiah; Jesus; The Spirit; Peter; Paul
Moses - The Servant of God Exodus 31:18 18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. What could be more authentic than something written by God? Notice how it mentions creation – God attesting to the correctness of the Genesis record.
The Prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah 1:9-10 9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. 10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. Jeremiah thought he was too young to be thus used by God. Jer 1:6 God said that he had put his words in Jeremiah’s mouth. God wishes to work with people to accomplish his will even to the destruction of kingdoms and nations.
Balaam – Moab’s Seer Numbers 23:12 12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?” Balaam was clear on what the limitations were on what he could say. He was required to speak only what YHWH had put into his mouth.
David the King 2 Samuel 23:1-3 1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, 2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” Sweet psalmist (pleasant, delightful) The Spirit of God spake by me and his word was in my tongue.
To King David [in Writing?] 1 Chronicles 28:19 19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.” Either David received it mentally and then wrote it out for Solomon. Or God gave the plans to him already written out, like the 10 commandments that were given to Moses.
The Lord Jesus Christ John 12:48-50 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.” Jesus in this event illustrated that the source of his teaching was his Father. His appeal to this point was well supported by his deeds which could only be explained by the fact the God had to be with him. Nicodemus John 3:2
The Holy Spirit John 14:26 KJV 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Part of the work of the Holy Spirit as it applied to the disciples and especially to the Gospel writers, was to give them the ability to remember what Jesus had said and done.
The Holy Spirit Luke 12:11-12 KJV 11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
The Apostle Peter Acts 2:14-16 KJV 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
The Apostle Paul Galatians 1:11-12 KJV 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. The Apostle wanted people to know that he had received the message of the Gospel from Jesus Christ himself.
