Diminished self-esteem patient’s isolation from his or her environment and friends Coping Many patients want information about coping strategies (Stewart et al., 2000). There is not a standardised approach to coping with the disease; every patient reacts in a different way (Manuel et al., 2007). Some, often those with a firm religious belief, may do very well without any professional psychological help (Lauver et al., 2007). There are various reaction phases over the course of a cancer illness.
