Integrated statistical production process - CVD Antonio Consoli - ESTAT B2 2

Integrated statistical production process - CVD CVD = Cycle de Vie des Données / Data Life Cycle Four major stages : Data Collection or Data Transmission Data Validation Statistical Production Data Dissemination Objective: Rationalise the IT systems for statistical productions 2

Integrated statistical production process - CVD The project was launched at the end of 2002 with seven internal CVD groups: Conceptual framework and metadata Data transmission Data validation Production systems and internal reference Data confidentiality Statistical Analysis Dissemination and Eurostat Portal Mission: define user requirements for each step of the CVD 2

Integrated statistical production process - CVD New CVD project (July – December 2004) Deliverables: Typology and categorisation of processes & flows - selection of representative sample to analyse Analysis of descriptions of statistical production processes (PIM plus other documentation sources) Identification of re-usable building blocks (“software components”) Definition of standards and guidelines for documentation of statistical applications 2

Integrated statistical production process - CVD Project’s main benefits: Risky system identification Harmonised and comprehensive application/system documentation Cost reduction (maintenance and development) Redeployment of effort 2

The target CVD system Integrated statistical production process - CVD Member States Transmission Production Dissemination Users -------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- Cluster of Production Systems Reduced number of Databases Transmission Tool. Validation Acknowledgement and validation, reporting Single entry point PS One Single Dissemination Environment Portal for user access DGs ECB NSI Extern. NSO 2

Integrated statistical production process - CVD Possible extension of CVD to the whole ESS Common process descriptions Common building blocks. Tools sharing. Data and meta-data interoperability. SDMX. Pressure on vendors. 2
