To use MITSL to develop a response to the poem London Objectives: To explore the poem London focusing on how Blake has used poetic devices to portray the theme of power and conflict To use MITSL to develop a response to the poem

London Write down FIVE facts about London. Write five opinions of London. Add these ideas to your title.

Views of London LDN Looking at your verse from the song, look at the devices that are used by Lily Allen to portray her views of London.

London exploration London reading I wander through each chartered street, Near where the chartered Thames does flow.  And mark in every face I meet Marks of weakness, marks of woe. In every cry of every man, In every infant’s cry of fear, In every voice: in every ban, The mind-forg'd manacles I hear  How the Chimney-sweepers cry Every black’ning Church appalls,  And the hapless Soldiers sigh Runs in blood down Palace walls  But most thro' midnight streets I hear How the youthful harlot’s curse Blasts the new-born infant’s tear  And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse.

Looking at vocabulary What techniques do you notice are used most? Why? How many syllables does each line have? Why? Are there words you aren't sure about? What is Blake’s overall view of London and how do you know?
