Croatian medical qualification recognition in Switzerland

Why would that be of interest to UEMS? UEMS aims for the following international non profit-making objectives: The study, promotion and harmonisation of the highest level of training of the medical specialists, medical practice and health care within the European Union; The study and promotion of free movement of specialist medical doctors within the EU; The representation, within this framework, of the medical specialist profession in the Member States of the EU, to EU authorities and any other authority and/or organisation dealing with questions directly or indirectly concerning the medical profession, and any action which might further the achievement of the afore-mentioned objectives. The defence of the professional interests of European Medical Specialists.

Why would that be of interest to UEMS? Croatia is EU member state All EU member states have signed bilateral contracts with Switzerland except Croatia and is blocked by Swiss authorities Croatian medical qualification is recognized within EU MEBEKO agency at BAG (Ministry of healthcare) explicitly does not recognize EBOT exam as an orthopaedic qualification

Why would that be of interest to EU Commission? Switzerland is pulling vast ammount of funding for research purposes from EU funds Zurich and Basel region are generating numerous high tech companies as spin-off partners on EU funds

Solution Switzerland is fully associated to Pillar I and successful proposals receive EU funding In Pillars II & III Switzerland is being considered as an industrialised Third Country and is eligible to participate Switzerland would automatically be fully associated to Horizon 2020 from 2017 onward if the agreement on the free movement of persons were to be extended to the new EU Member State Croatia before 9 February 2017
