Timeline April 1943 - Germans recover the body of a British Royal Marine pilot from the waters off a Spanish beach May 13, 1943 - Allies won the North African Campaign July 10, 1943 - The invasion of Sicily, code-named Operation Husky, began before dawn July 24, 143 – Prime Minister Benito Mussolini was deposed and arrested July 25, 2013 - The first Italian troops began withdrawing from Sicily
