Academics Citizenship Discipline The Prerequisites Academics Citizenship Discipline

The Five NJHS Pillars Character Scholarship Leadership Service Citizenship

Selection Process A Cumulative Average of 90+ and Teacher Recommendations Applications will be reviewed by the Faculty Council Committee New Members will receive an invitation to join by the last week of March. Induction Ceremony will be at 7:00pm on April 6th

Faculty Council This council is made up of 5 faculty members. The council evaluates all forms submitted for consideration for NJHS membership. The faculty council analyzes the student information and determines a final decision.

Student Evaluation by Teachers Categories: (Addressing the Pillars) Sets Positive Example Shows Positive Attitude Works Well with Others Remains on Task Consistently Meets Deadlines Accepts Redirection

Academic Requirements The point average starts in the fall semester of 6th grade. Candidates must have a minimum average of 90%, determined by averaging all academic and elective course grades Overall GPA must be 90 to be eligible for NJHS

Citizenship A student must have at least a “Satisfactory” in citizenship in all courses during the current academic year. “Unsatisfactory” in citizenship in a course disqualifies a student from the selection process. Any change in a student’s citizenship may result in probation or resignation. For example: ISS Academic Dishonesty Excessive Referrals

Service NJHS Members are expected to take an active role in Service Projects on and off campus. Each student is required to work a minimum of 12 hours per semester. This year: Elf Louis Toy Drive Food Drive March of Dimes Habitat for Humanity (this summer)

Student Application Students must complete and return their applications by March 8, 2017. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A parent signature is required.

Final Selection A student who meets the high standards for NJHS membership is invited to join the organization. Sponsors facilitate the selection process but do not choose the members.

Important Notices During the selection process, if a student does NOT uphold the membership requirements, then he/she will not advance. This is not an “Honor Roll” club. Grades are only a portion of the membership requirement. Citizenship, Character, Leadership and Service are all contributing factors. NJHS sponsors do NOT participate in the selection process except for collecting data. All members are expected to take an active role in service projects.

Notification Students who ARE selected will be notified prior to induction. Those students accepting the invitation will be inducted during a ceremony on April 6, 2017. Members initiated in 2017 will pay dues in the amount of $20.00. These dues will be collected when students who have been accepted into the organization agree to be inducted.

Cause for Dismissal after Induction Any member who falls below the Honor Point of 90% (average of all subjects) Any member who receives an N or U in citizenship will be promptly warned and put on probation. Any member who fails to complete the required service hours (12 per semester) will be put on probation and given nine weeks to make up the required hours.

Thank you for attending
