2018-2019 Scheduling Information and Graduation Requirements Class of 2022 Dr. Brian Disney, Principal

New Graduation Pathway Requirements Begins with Class of 2023 (current 7th graders) but can be used for current juniors, sophomores, freshmen, and 8th graders. In Rule-Making now; we do not have details at this time.

Graduation Requirements Philosophy To succeed in some form of quality postsecondary education and training, every Hoosier high school graduate will have: Awareness of and engagement with individual career interests and options Foundation of academic and technical skills Demonstrate employability skills

Graduation Requirements Overview Currently, graduates must satisfy two requirements: High School Diploma Graduation Qualifying Exam (ISTEP+ Grade 10) With new requirements, graduates must satisfy all three Graduation Pathway Requirements: Employability Skills Postsecondary-Ready Competencies No More Graduation Exam (and No More Retesting)

Learn and Demonstrate Employability Skills Must be validated locally by Student-Work Product and School Validation Options: Project-Based Learning: capstone, research, other major project-based learning Service-Based Learning: meaningful volunteer or civic engagement, school-based activity for at least one academic year Work-Based Learning: internship, Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate, employment outside of the school day Standards may include Indiana’s Employability Skills Benchmarks and comparable character development benchmarks.

Postsecondary-Ready Competencies Honors Diploma ACT, SAT, or ASVAB test scores Industry credential, certification, or apprenticeship CTE Concentrator (6 HS credits in one CTE pathway like Ag) AP/Dual Credit (C average in at least 3 courses one of which must be English, math, science, or social studies) Locally-created pathway (requires State Board approval)

Graduation Requirements

Core 40 8 credits of English 6 credits of Math: one math or QR course each year, including Alg I, Geometry, and Alg II 6 Science credits, to include Bio I, and either Chem I, ICP, or Physics. 6 Social Studies credits, including US History, World History, Government and Economics. Minimum = 40 CREDITS

Core 40: Academic Honors 8 credits of English 8 credits of Math – must have math all 4 years of high school 6 Science credits: to include Bio I and Chem I, ICP, or Physics, ESSC. 6 Social Studies credits: US History, World History, Government, Economics 3 years of one foreign language, or 2 years of one + 2 years of a 2nd foreign language 2 Fine Arts credits– Music, Art, Theatre Arts, Student Publications Earn 6 college credits, 4 AP credits, or a combination of the two Minium cumulative GPA 2.7 by graduation Minimum = 47 CREDITS

Academic Honors Requirements (cont) Earn 6 college credits, 4 AP credits, or a combination of the two: 1. Two year-long AP courses, totaling 4 AP credits OR 2. Two DC courses, totaling 6 college credits OR 3. One AP course and one year-long AP course AHD does NOT require “Honors” courses

Technical Honors diploma Complete all requirements for Core 40. Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved College & Career Pathway and one of the following: Pathway designated industry-based certification or credential, or Pathway dual credits from the approved dual credit list resulting in 6 transcripted college credits Earn a grade of “C-” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. Have a cumulative grade point average of a “2.7” or better. Complete one of the following, Any one of the options (A - F) of the Core 40 with Academic Honors Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys: Reading for Information – Level 6, Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and Locating Information - Level 5. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80. Minimum = 47 CREDITS

Language Arts & U.S. History -Honors (ID) or Regular Students who are diligent about completing/turning in homework, school attendance, are likely to be successful in English 9 Honors ID. Must be earning A or high B in current class If students sign up for English 9 Honors ID, they will be co-enrolled in U.S. History Honors ID. Together, these classes will focus on content-specific literacy and writing skills.

Students Who Successfully Completed: Algebra, Adv Students Who Successfully Completed: Algebra, Adv. Math, and/or Biology in 8th grade: Alg 1: next math course is Geometry Honors (based on success in Alg I and teacher recommendation). Adv. Math 8: next math course is Alg I H Biology: next science course options include: Chem I, Chem I Honors, and/or Principles of Biomedical Science, depending on success in Algebra I

Credits One semester class = 1 credit. For each class you pass, you earn 1 credit. (No cred. study hall/TA) 7 periods per day x 2 semesters = 14 credits per school year (if no study hall) If study hall each semester for four years = 48 credits (12 year x 4 years) Minimum number of credits for a diploma is 40. The Th and AHD diplomas require a minimum of 47 credits. There is time in the day to complete 56 credits over 4 years. Chronic Absences: students may lose credits

What Happens Next? We use student requests to generate the master schedule. Counselors will meet with students individually to finalize course requests. Requests for a particular teacher or lunch period cannot be accommodated. Finalized schedules will be available at the start of next school year.
