Who are SAAS & SLC? Take a note of this, as you will need to quote it if and when you contact SAAS After completing your online F. T. funding application, your unique SAAS number will be generated. SAAS - Government organisation which assesses each student’s funding application for fee eligibility, YS & IS bursary support and student loan entitlement. You can apply to SAAS for both Full-time and Part-time funding. SAAS assess you and your award. If you do receive a YS or IS bursary you don’t repay this funding element back. The SLC pay your loan and will monitor your loan repayment after graduation, via your National Insurance Number.

SAAS FT /PT Application Do you have: Eligibility – 3 questions to ask? Which funds are available to you now? Apply for: Tuition Fees Income Assessed Loan + Non-Income Assessed Loan + Young Student Bursary (YSB) or Independent Student’s Bursary (ISB). YOU CAN EARN UP TO £25,000 A YEAR AND STILL GET A P.T. FEE GRANT! Course Fee Cost HNC/D £1,285 Degree £1,820 Eligibility Q1. Have you lived for 3 years in Scotland? (settled in the UK under the Immigration Act 1971); will you be resident on the first day of the first academic year of your coursestart date of your course? Q2. Are you applying for a full-time advanced course? For example: HNC, HND, Degree - PGDE Q3. Have you studied at HN level before? If this is a yes, Speak to an adviser for information on a 1:1 basis What do you apply for Tuition fees – cost of your course Young Students Bursary – non-repayable Independent Students Bursary – non-repayable NMSB – Nursing, Midwifery Student Bursary – non repayable. Student Loans: can be income assessed (means tested) or non-income assessed – both are repayable Single Parent Grant Supplementary Grants Part-time Fee Grant If aged between 50-54 you may not be eligible for a loan, however you will be eligible for HE Discretionary Funds, and Independent Student Bursary. EU and International Student Support EU and International Students will receive Tuition Support and access the loans, bursaries and supplementary grants if specific conditions can be met. You are taking a full time course in Scotland and plan to graduate from Scotland You have not studied a degree or equivalent gained previously from your home county. Students must have lived for 3 years in Scotland to gain funds other than Tuition Support only. A student from a Non-UK EU or International country requires a College/University NARIC check. International students must have the appropriate visa status. (settled in the UK under the Immigration Act 1971);

Young Students Bursary Under 25 at the start of the course or You do not have a child of any age dependent on you* or Not self-supporting for 3 years or more. Max £1,875 if household between £0 - £18,999 and tapers down to zero if £34,000 +. You can apply for the student loan to top up your YSB Talk through the YSB You do not have a child of any age dependent on you* at the start of academic year…

Independent Students Bursary SAAS do not expect parents to contribute to loans/fees of Independent Students You must meet one of the following criteria: Be over 25 years of age Have a dependent child Single and self supporting for 3 years (above the benefits level) Married, in a civil partnership or living with a partner Your parents are no longer alive Estranged from parents (please speak to a Learner Adviser) Max £875 if household income is £0 - £18,999 and tapers down to 0 if household income is £34,000+ Benefits – JSA approx. £75 per week Read through the slide…

DSA – this fund may provide you with IT/assistive technology kit and or non-medical support to support you during your HE study. Lone Parents – support with childcare Vacation grants – support care experienced students, by providing £100+ per week during the summer vacation period to pay for accommodation costs. All Universities and Colleges have discretionary funding - ask and apply when you get to University if you can be included in this fund. University Bursaries and Scholarships – ask? HE DISCRETIONARY FUND! CHILDCARE FUNDING!

SAAS Monthly payment dates

Enough funding regardless of which route you take… SAAS have introduced a “+1” rule, You can use the “+1” to cover these repeats: Academic Medical Compassionate, Or “Intercalated” years - Intercalated - Intransitive verb to place something into something else, inserting it between other parts, or be placed between other parts – years out. Approved changes of course Year one entry to degree for HND holders Year one of HND for HNC holders This allows students to gain one extra years funding to the minimum time you require to complete your programme of study.

A Word of Caution If you leave your course before the 1st of December 2016 the following will happen… You will be charged the cost for your tuition at £35 per week if you are studying on an HNC/D If you withdraw in the first two weeks after enrolment you will be charged £25 administration costs. If there is NO positive attendance WITHIN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS there will be no charge.  Pay back schedule : Week Ending  Date of enrolment to 01/12/2016   Costs September 9 September £35 16 September £70 23 September £105 October 30 September £140 7 October £175 14 October £205 21 October £240 28 October £275 November 4 November £305 11 November £340 18 November £375 25 November £405 You will be charged the cost for your tuition at £50 per week if you are Studying on a Degree programme. Month £50 £100 £150 £200 £250 £300 £350 £400 £450 £500 £550 £600 You will sign a document at Enrolment or Matriculation which means you are effectively aware of this information. The college will ask you to pay a fee for every week you have been in attendance. HN @ £35, Degree @ £50 - Your last positive attendance date is used to calculate this. As a University student if you withdraw from your course before the 1st of December you may have to pay a fee of 60% of your Tuition fee costs? 60% of £1,820 Please speak the student services teams for support and advice if you are having on course difficulties or issues. If you are studying on an integrated degree programme, the university shall charge you 60% of your course fees, should you withdraw before 1st December 2016 – please read your university handbook.
