What is a Sestina? A poem of six six-line stanzas and a three- line envoy, originally without rhyme, in which each stanza repeats the end words of the lines of the first stanza, but in different order, the envoy using the six words again, three in the middle of the lines and three at the end. Pretty much using the last word in each sentence in the poem to repeat in the stanza To add on

The origins of a “Sestina” The invention of the sestina form is traditionally attributed to Arnaut Daniel, a 12th-century troubadour of Provence, although his contribution to its development has been debated. Other poets on the continent cultivated the sestina during the 13-15th centuries, including Dante and Petrarch in Italy, and Luís de Camões in Portugal.

An Example of a Sestina

Pretty Roses Now the pretty roses have their own place Where there space to dance A place with a worth never in a vase Not being shunned on the floor But loving glances Pretty roses on the floor Laying there without no worth Can’t rhyme, sing or dance No feeling or some type of glance But just trapped in a place And never in a vase The glorifying vase Shunning the roses on the floor Showing the world its place It has its own worth People are memorize by one glance The colors on the vase fly, prance and dance This mysterious dance Of the confidence vase Is only hidden by glance On the floor To the roses with no worth And trapped in it secret place
