BLOCKCHAIN AND THE FUTURE OF DAM

Project Director, DayDream BLOCKCHAIn AND THE FUTURE OF DAM Jean Lozano CTO, MediaValet Ralph Windsor Project Director, DayDream Editor, DAM News

WHAT IS BLOCKCHAIN? Continuously growing list of records, called blocks, linked and secured using cryptography, that is inherently resistant to modification of data A secure, shared, distributed ledger that contains an immutable record of every transaction that occurred Managed by a peer-to-peer network Achieves decentralized consensus

Blockchain P2P network From: Buyer From: #004 To: Seller To: #005 Amount: $100 From: #004 To: #005 Amount: $100 John #001 Block created by Buyer Block seen by Network Users Buyer #004 Seller #005 Maria #002 Dave #003

LEDGER FROM TO PROPERTY VALUE John Jane Payment $100 Maria Dave $800 Asset Car $200 Message I love you Example Ledger Entire network has ledgers

Transaction walkthrough Someone requests a transaction through a DApp. Validation - miners verify the transaction Transaction broadcasted to P2P computer (nodes) The transaction is complete. The new block is then added to the existing blockchain, in a way that is permanent and unalterable. Once verified, the transaction is combined with other transactions to create a new block of data for the ledger.

Blockchain protocols

Decentralized apps

Blockchain network TYPES Public Blockchain Network Private Blockchain Network Consortium or Federated Blockchain Network

So what’s all the hype about???

- Massively transformative purpose -

Blockchain 2.0: SMART CONTRACTS On-chain assets Settlement For digital assets on the chain, such as a cryptocurrency, accounts are atomically settled For assets represented off chain, such as stocks and fiat, changes to accounts on the ledger will match off-chain settlement instructions Execute & Value Transfer Terms of contract dictate movement of value based on conditions met. Events Event triggers contract execution Event can refer to: Transaction initiated Information received Pre-defined contract Terms are established by all counterparties, such as: Variable interest rate (e.g. LIBOR) Currency rate Conditions for execution (e.g. time and date, LIBOR rate at given value) 1 2 3 4 Off-chain assets

BLOCKCHAIN 2.0: SAMPLE USE-CASES Banking and Capital Markets Manufacturing Retail Insurance Government Health Asset tracking Real time auction for supplier contracts Supply chain transparency Loyalty tracking Product provenance Logistics management Claims management MBS/Property Payments Fraud detection Automated underwriting Bond Issuance Trade Finance Loan Syndication Post Trade Settlement Cross Border Payments Licensing and ID Benefit distribution Aid tracking Military security Personalized medicine Records sharing Compliance

Blockchains & The DAM Industry Supply Chain Consortium Ralph Windsor

Blockchains: The Answer To The DAM Interoperability Crisis? Potential of blockchain for DAM interoperability and more efficient digital asset supply chains A blockchain is no more than a distributed transactional database. Blockchain offers advantages for cloud interoperability: they are trustless and distributed. No one entity has absolute control. De-centralised: has similar advantages to the internet. Blockchain offers an independent and redundant method to exchange data. This makes them potentially suitable for DAM interoperability.

What Is The DAM Supply Chain Consortium? Industry initiative formed by Daydream, MediaValet, Assetbank, Brandworkz, GSPANN, MerlinOne and Picturepark. Research the development of DAM industry supply chains. Investigate using trustless blockchains and Distributed Ledger Technology. Carry out research into both trusted and trustless methods. Develop interoperability metadata protocols and formalised service descriptions. Create a DAM industry content services exchange. Vendors, consultants and users are all welcome.
