Session 2: Current Issues and the Latest Developments from International Organizations Andrii Gritsevskyi Oslo Group on Energy Statistics 11th Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden

UN Statistical Commission and SDGs 70 years of global statistical cooperation Terms of references set by Economic and Social Council Promoting the development of national statistics and the improvement of their comparability Coordination of the statistical work of specialized agencies Promoting the improvement of statistics and statistical methods generally

UN Statistical Commission and SDGs Current focus and challenge - Global Indicator Framework for the Sustainable Development Goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Countries centric process International organizations assigned to specific indicators and methodology behind 3 tiers system, some are in “untested waters”

MSs are “owners” of these organizations and agencies National Statistics Systems and International / Regional Organizations and Agencies MSs are “owners” of these organizations and agencies Role of these bodies is consolidating Importance of “practical” approaches and consensus principle There are issues that need to be addressed Role of Coordinating Committees (in UN, CCSA, UN Chief Statisticians, etc.)

Energy Statistics Implementation of the IRES and actual use of ESCM Core Energy Statistics somewhat pushed to “second row” Visibly declining resources, specifically for capacity building Strong needs to more detailed / disaggregated data and cross domain linkages
