Performance Objectives Apply styles Create an outline style numbered list Clear formatting Display a document in Outline view Create an outline, assign headings in an outline, collapse and expand outline headings, organize an outline, and number an outline

Applying Styles with the Style Button Position the insertion point in the paragraph to which you want the style applied. click the down-pointing arrow Style drop-down list

Creating an Outline Style Numbered List Format, Bullets and Numbering click desired option certain options are available only when heading styles have been applied to text

Clearing Formatting select text OR Edit, Clear, Formats click the down-pointing arrow click OR Edit, Clear, Formats apply the Normal style

Creating an Outline Outline Selection Symbols View, Outline or click Outline View button headings and subheadings are identified as certain heading levels Outline Selection Symbols indicates that subtext appears below the heading indicates that no subtext appears below the heading indicates the paragraph is normal text outline selection symbols can be used to select document text

Outlining Toolbar Promote to Heading 1 Promote Outline Level Demote Demote to Body Text Move Up Move Down Expand Collapse Show Level Show First Line Only Show Formatting

Assigning Headings Promote Demote You can also promote or demote a heading by dragging the selection symbol to the left or right 0.5 inch.

Collapsing and Expanding a Document View a condensed outline of the document without all of the text in between headings or subheadings. - useful for viewing, moving insertion point, moving text, maintaining consistency use drop-down list and click desired level gray line indicates that text below heading is collapsed use Expand button to expand all text beneath a heading use Collapse button to collapse all text beneath a heading

– collapsed text is moved at the same time Organizing an Outline select heading – collapsed text is moved at the same time Move Up Move Down

Assigning Levels assigns outline levels without applying formatting click down-pointing arrow and select desired level

Numbering an Outline Format, Bullets and Numbering click desired option If headings are moved, inserted, or deleted, the headings are automatically renumbered.

Commands Review How do you display the Styles and Formatting task pane? Styles and Formatting button

Commands Review How do you clear all character and paragraph formatting from selected text? click the down-pointing arrow click OR Edit, Clear, Formats apply the Normal style

or click Outline View button Commands Review How do you change to Outline view? View, Outline or click Outline View button
