Monticello High School Powderpuff Monticello High School

Monticello High School has an annual charity event called Powderpuff Monticello High School has an annual charity event called Powderpuff. Powderpuff is a flag football game played by the females of our school. What makes our Powderpuff event different than others is that all proceeds go to a charity chosen by our SCA.

HOW DOES POWDERPUFF WORK AS A CHARITY EVENT?

WHAT DOES THE POWDERPUFF LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE DO? These members of the committee plan out the setup of the whole event. They have to find coaches for each grade level team and open a table for students to come and sign up. There are t-shirts designed for the Powderpuff teams to buy to represent their grade level. They also have to handle all the forms and the money, plus everyone’s T-shirt size. They are in charge of the social media - twitter, facebook pages, and advertising around the school. WHY SHOULD YOU DO THIS AT YOUR SCHOOL? You don’t have to do Powderpuff but could use the framework to raise money for a charity or your choose. Proceeds from the powderpuff participants and other donations go to a charity. It is a great way for students to get to know one another and it is a friendly competition between all grade levels.

HOW CAN YOU CREATE AN EVENT LIKE THIS AT YOUR SCHOOL? Use a student leader group such as SCA or Leadership to brainstorm ideas and names for the group. Once you have the name of the group, advertize, make announcements, create social media pages and most importantly get people involved. Once other students see a group going all out and having fun, hopefully they will soon join too. Choose a charity that could benefit in the community. WHAT OBSTACLES MAY ARISE? There are down years…when some grade are not as involved. Finding a good time in the year where there is an athletic break. Finding a charity Approval from administration
