Molecular Madness Molecular compounds consist of two or more non-metallic elements. In a molecular compound, atoms share valence electrons in order to form a covalent bond and become stable.

Naming and Formula Writing 1. The first element keeps its regular name. 2.The second element ends in the suffix “ide”. 3. Add prefixes to both elements to indicate the number of atoms of each element present in the compound.

Provide the correct name when given the formula…. P2O5 = diphosphorous pentaoxide OCl2 = oxygen dichloride Br2 = bromine CF4 = carbon tetrafluoride BH3 = boron trihydride CH3OH= methanol N2H4 = dinitrogen tetrahydride SiH4 = silane

Provide the correct name when given the formula…. SiO2 = silicon dioxide O3 = ozone SF2 = sulfur difluoride C12H22O11 = sucrose P4 = phosphorus AsCl3 = arsenic trichloride SO3 = sulfur trioxide

Provide the correct formula when given the name: P5O10 NH3 CS2 HF I2 BCl3 C4H10 S8 CH4 CO2 CH3OH C3H8 N2O5 C2H4
