TEXTURE Texture creates visual interest by engaging the different senses. It an be Visual or Tactile (real texture that can be touched). In photography, texture is accentuated by lighting. Ansel Adams

Texture and Lighting Side lighting can exaggerate texture. Shooting in early morning or late afternoon creates deep, long shadows and a range of tones.

Texture and Camera Angle / Lens Your lens choice and camera angle can also exaggerate texture.

Texture and HDR High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography can exaggerate texture due to its high tonal range and high contrast.

Texture and Value Texture is most evident when an image has a wide tonal range-- lots of values, from deep shadows, to midtones, and highlights. Images with few tones (flat) do not show texture well.

Texture and Pattern Texture can create interesting patterns when it is repetitive. The combination of texture and pattern results in visual impact.

Texture Examples Find the following examples and post them: Landscape with texture Architecture with texture Portrait with texture HDR with texture Texture that creates pattern After each image, write two sentences explaining the following: Where is the light coming from in the picture? How was the texture exaggerated in the picture? Ralph H. Gibson American, b, 1939 Self Portrait in Paris, Hotel du Pont Royal 1985 gelatin silver print on paper
