Orange Team Grade 6 Welcome to the Orange Team! We are so glad that you came out to join us this evening!

Mr. Charles Marenghi Orange Team Mathematics Grade 6 Mr. Charles Marenghi Orange Team "The universe cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other geometrical figures, without which means it is humanly impossible to comprehend a single word.“ ~Galileo Galilei~ Italian astronomer, mathematician, and physicist.

Problem Solving watch this video? 7 x 13 = 28 ????

Celebrate Mistakes! Encourage your child to take chances when devising plans to solve problems. Remind them that a mistake is just another opportunity to learn and grow. Remember, in life, your best teacher is your last mistake. Mistakes are proof that you are trying. Making a mistake is better than faking perfection.

Topics We Cover In Grade 6 Number Sense (Whole and Rational Numbers) Pre-Algebraic Concepts Ratio and Rates Geometric Concepts Statistics and Probability Multistep Problem Solving

Typical Day in Math Review Daily Math Problem of the Day Solve and Share Visual Learning Guided Practice Independent and Collaborative Work

Our Tools In Math Consumable Textbook Online Textbook Calculators Practice Buddies (Instant Feedback and helps) Our peers and teammates (Collaboration) Our mistakes

Fun With a Calculator Add: Your month of birth + 18 Multiply that number by 25 Subtract 333 from that number Multiply that number by 8 Subtract 554 from that number Divide that number by 2 Add your day of birth to that number Multiply that number by 5 Add 692 to that number Multiply that number by 20 Add the last two digits of your year of birth to that number Subtract 32,940 from that number You should now see the month, day, and year you were born.

~ Mickey Mouse, Great American Icon~ "But in the new (math) approach, the important thing is to understand what you're doing, rather than to get the right answer." ~ Tom Lehrer, Comedian~ "Arithmetic is being able to count up to twenty without taking off your shoes." ~ Mickey Mouse, Great American Icon~ “Mathematics is like love; a simple idea, but it can get complicated.” ~Anonymous~

Your Child’s Grade 10% is based on experiential activities. This includes all class work and homework 50% is based on formative assessments such as quizzes and in class labs. (I drop the lowest quiz grade at the end of each term) 40% is based on summative testing and hands on projects.

Homework Expect homework Monday-Thursday Evenings. Consult your child’s planner and your Remind Update every evening to see assignments and investigate links to expanded learning opportunities. Highly necessary to ensure success both this year and in future years. Expect 30min - 1hr each night
