Character Development To assess how characters are developed through non- verbal cues.

Empathy Definition The ability to sense and understand someone else’s feelings as if they were one’s own. How do films make us feel empathy for the characters? So far in Jaws, who have you felt empathy for? Why?

What are non-verbal cues? When you go away on a holiday and people don’t speak English, how do you know what’s going on? Non-verbal cues include: Facial expression Body language Posture Movement

Chief Brody How is this communicated to the audience? What is Brody thinking at this moment? How is this communicated to the audience? What does Brody say or do in this scene? How would you describe the way he feels?

Relationships What relationships do each of the characters share with each other? Does it change through the course of the film?

Character Development How do these characters respond to each other? Give an example including an explanation of the non-verbal cues used to present the action/emotion to the audience.
