Life Skills 8 “The Future Depends on What you do Today.” Mahatma Gandhi

District Class Description: Life Skills 8 is a fun, interactive class that showcases you!   You will learn success and motivational tips, explore your values, goals, and communication styles.  The career pathways will be explored by incorporating hands-on activities.  For example, you will use the engineering process to develop candy cars and market a product “Shark Tank” style.  These activities and more will prepare you for your future by determining your interests.  (Scroll to see more about this module.) Your final exam is a comprehensive project-based assessment assisting you in your “future you.”

Exploring Career Pathways activities Human services: “Who’s line is it anyway” game show. Engineering: Design and construct candy cars. Business/Management: Invent and market a product “Shark Tank” style. Information/Technology: Explore coding. Architecture and Design: Design your dream home floor plan. Medical Health: Explore your favorite medical career. Arts and Communication: Create a press release reflecting the winning “Shark Tank” product.

Activities, Projects, discussions, Explorations. We designed and built candy cars to learn about engineering. My design worked! This car rolled far! Sweet! “I had so much fun in this class with all the cool activities and I learned a lot about myself.”

Outside perspective interviews on what it takes to be successful…… “I learned tips to help me become successful.”

Activities, Projects, Discussions, Explorations. Capstone project: The mid-term/final exam consists of creating a “future me” project.

Tradeshow/capstone examples: “I learned how to work in a group better.” ”It’s ok for the teacher not to give you all the answers. As a group, we had to figure out how to create a quality project.”

What students had to say about Life skills 8: “I felt good about myself everyday leaving Life Skills....it was motivating.” “I never realized what skills I was actually good at and how they can relate to my future.”
