All PARTNERS ACCESS NETWORK APAN Overview All PARTNERS ACCESS NETWORK Hello, my name is _____ and I work in the J732 as _______ for APAN I will be providing you with a brief overview of the All Partners Access Network also know as APAN 06 February 2013 Jenney Tagorda, Lead Knowledge Manager

www.apan.org What is APAN? Web-based, unclassified, non-.mil, collaboration platform Developed to foster information and knowledge sharing between the United States Department of Defense and non-DoD entities APAN is a Web-based, unclassified, non- .mil, collaboration platform developed to foster information and knowledge sharing between the United States Department of Defense and non-DoD entities such as foreign partners & militaries, ngos, other government organization that do not have access to our traditional DOD networks (SIPR, NIPR, etc.) Since it is web-based, APAN can be accessed from anywhere in the world. To get to APAN go to www.apan.org To get an APAN account, all you need is a email address that you can access. Available to any user with an internet connection 2

DoD Unclassified Information Sharing Service (UISS) - APAN OCT 2011 – APAN designated as a DoD Shared Enterprise Service for unclassified information sharing No Cost to Use APAN USPACOM Pacific Warfighting Center (PWC), J322 designated as the Application Service Provider (ASP) for UISS Development, Testing/Staging, COOP, System Administration, Knowledge Management, Service Desk, Outreach, R&D and Event support APAN was developed over 10 years at PACOM and was formerly known as the Asia Pacific Area Network In October 2011, it was designated as the DOD Unclassified Information Sharing Enterprise Service It is currently, funded through DISA so there is no cost to use APAN’s basic services PWC/PACOM J732 serves as the Application Service Provider for APAN 3

Community of Interests (COI) Communities built using APAN Sites (SharePoint) or APAN Groups (Telligent) Owners Responsibilities: Control Visibility, Access and Membership Customizable Look & Feel Manage content Decide on which APAN tools & capabilities to incorporate into COI All information on APAN is organized in Communities of interest. When you get an APAN account you get access to the publicly accessible information. To access private information, you need to request access to a COI. Communities can built in our two main collaboration environments. APAN Sites powered by SharePoint provides a more structured way to share information using file folders, lists and libraries or APAN Groups, powered by telligent, provides a more social, unstructured way to share information using Blogs, wikis, forums. Owners Responsibilities: Control Visibility, Access and Membership Customizable Look & Feel Manage content (including to ensure only unclassified information is shared on APAN) Decide on which APAN tools & capabilities to incorporate into COI The APAN Knowledge Management team will work with COI owners to identify their information sharing environment requirements and suggest tools and services to meet those requirements. For example, if you are in charge of an exercise or an event or participate in a working group where you need to share information with non-dod participants, you can set up an APAN COI with an experienced APAN Knowledge Manager’s consultation. 4
