Objective Obtain control over key routes to German territory to prepare for a final invasion in Germany. - Secure numerous bridges along Highway 69 in the Netherlands close to the German border.

Market - Divided into Divisions - 101st Airborne Division were to Capture bridges at Eindhoven,  Son and Veghel - 82nd Airborne Division were to land and capture bridges at Grave and Nijmegen - 1st Airborne Division landed and captured bridges at Arnhem

Garden Ground forces to provide support for the airborne divisions. Consisted of mostly XXX Corps (British Army). - set to arrive at 101st division on day 1. - set to arrive at 82nd division on day 2. - set to arrive at 1st division on day 4.

Action 101st and 82nd division managed to capture most assigned bridges. However the arrival of ground forces was delayed due to Germans demolishing some of their bridges to slow down the Allies.

Action Meanwhile, German defenses at Arnhem successfully defended against the allies. By the time the 82nd and 101st divisions had secured their bridges, German forces were already advancing to them. Remaining allied forces were to weak to face the German counter attack.

Retreatment On September 25 1944, Allies retreated.

Results About 15 thousand to 17 thousand casualties. Allies failed to seize an opportunity that could lead to an Allied victory of WWII.
