Giving Mom Her Due Ephesians 6:1-3

Giving Mom Her Due Today is the day in which we honor the wonderful mothers in our lives We appreciate our mothers and want to let them know on this day what we think of them God certainly cherishes the wonderful women who have loved and cared for us

Some Moms feel lucky today…

Being a Mother is treatable

Breakfast in Bed?

Giving Mom Her Due We know how much our mothers mean to us and how special they are The question we have to ask ourselves continually is, “How do I treat my mom?” Do we give our mothers the respect and honor that is due them for all that they have done for us?

Giving Mom Her Due “Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.” (Rom. 13:7) Certainly our mothers deserve honor, and we should therefore honor them this and every day we have them with us

Honor Your Mother One of the ways the Bible teaches us to treat our mothers is to honor them Even as far back as the Old Testament do we see this commandment “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you” (Ex. 20:12)

Honor Your Mother Jesus told the rich young ruler that if he wanted to enter into life that he should keep the commandments This included “honor your father and your mother” (Matt. 19:16-19) Paul repeated this in Ephesians 6:2-3 as the first commandment w/promise

Honor Your Mother Honor means to prize or to value something What kind of a value would you put on your mother? If we truly prize them, we need to show that appreciation to them every opportunity we have

Obey Your Mother The Bible also teaches that we are to obey our mothers Eph. 6:1 – “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” Deut. 21:18-21 – Consequences of one who would not obey the voice of mother

Obey Your Mother Prov. 30:17 – “The eye that mocks his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it” Prov. 6:20 – “My son…do not forsake the law of your mother” Mothers are to be not only honored, but also obeyed

Repay Your Mother Obviously there is probably not enough we could ever do to repay all that a mother does for her children However we need to do our best to show the same care for our mothers that they showed for us, especially as they age I Tim. 5:4

Bless Your Mother Prov. 30:11 – “There is a generation that curses its father, and does not bless its mother” We are expected to bless our mothers Bless means to congratulate, praise, or thank When’s the last time you thanked mom?

Make Your Mother Happy Prov. 23:25 – “Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who bore you rejoice” We should never do anything that would grieve our mothers What a relief it is for a mother to have a child that is obedient in the Lord (Heb. 13:17)
