The Use of Symbols in Egyptian Religion

What is a “symbol”? A word, phrase, image or the like having a complex of associated meanings and perceived of having inherent value separate from that which is being symbolized, as being part of that which is being symbolized, and as performing part of its normal function of standing for and representing that is symbolized. Dictionary.com

Egyptian hieroglyphs are often considered to be magical and mysterious.

Less well-known is the magic and power to be found in the symbols of Egyptian Coptic Christians and medieval Muslims.

For many ancient and medieval peoples, including the Egyptians, all aspects of life were viewed within the cosmology of their religion. Symbols did not merely represent the sacred & powerful, the symbols themselves were sacred & powerful.
