What Is A Rainforest A rainforest is a very humid place. There are thousands of trees in a rainforest. Over 50% of the worlds animals live there.

Location of the Rain Forests The Rainforests are located near Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. They are located in Central America, South America, Madagascar, Asia, and The Hawaiian Islands.

Emergent Layer The Emergent Layer is made up of the trees that grow higher than shorter trees. Some animals such as toucans, parrots, and butterflies live there.

Canopy Layer The canopy is the layer of trees that blocks out the sunlight. Many animals live in the canopy such as the sloth, emerald tree boa, and the scarlet macaw.

Understory Layer The understory is the layer that is under the canopy. Not much light gets to the understory. Animals such as the ocelot and jaguar live there.

Forest Floor The forest floor is the layer with the most bugs like the bird eating tarantula, army ants, and butterflies. It is very dark.When a tree falls light shines through the canopy.

Deforestation Deforestation means the rainforest is getting cut down. Some of the reasons are that they are making room for cattle, for mining, and for farms.

People of the Rainforest Some people live in the rain forest. It is hard to hunt, find fruits, and find water. If people got sick they would see a shaman.
